Caring for your PashminaPashmina

We recommend dry cleaning or hand washing your pashmina only when necessary is the key secret to preserving its original character forever.  Dry cleaning with a good dry cleaning agent is probably the safest way to clean, but washing your pashmina shawl with care as recommended, may improve the look and preserve the softness of the fabric.
Pashmina shawls are created from Nature's most superior fiber and as such, may be hand washed. Traditionally, people from Nepal have washed their pashmina shawls in cold rivers and streams. Since old methods of washing are to be avoided, for practical and safety reasons, and because variation in washing practices worldwide applies - we make the dry cleaning recommendation. However, if you are keen to launder your garment in the more traditional way to avoid dry cleaning chemicals, we have included some handy hints.

Washing:

Soak your pashmina shawl in cold or tepid water for about 5 minutes with special wool washing detergent and a tablespoon of salt or white vinegar (to protect the color) - rinse it with cold water before gently squeezing. Softly squeeze inside a towel to remove excess water. Hang out over a folded dry towel on the line and let remaining water drip until it dries (do not use pegs and try to avoid strong sunlight). It will dry very quickly.

Ironing:
Using a low steam temperature setting (wool) is often sufficient to bring the desired shiny look to your pashmina. To achieve the special lustrous look for your pashmina, we recommend using a thin white damp cotton cloth on top of the shawl.
